About Us
Hi, I’m Joe Carman-Sami, a Graphic Designer and the Founder of Cat and Monkey.
My vision was to craft T-shirts with a luxurious feel that feature exclusive designs, all while supporting the Born Free Foundation and prioritising ethical practices. Motivated by the amazing feedback I received on my T-shirts during a trial run in 2023, I embraced the exciting challenge of launching my own business.
My main process for creating designs is automatic drawing, or automatism. This technique involves creating spontaneous, subconscious marks or doodles without a specific plan, which I then develop into more intentional artwork.
Many of my designs feature a cat and a monkey, inspired by my symbolic take on being a cat parent. In this dynamic, I’m the monkey, with opposable thumbs and the tools to create, whilst my cat, true to form, embodies all things feline.

Sustainable Production
All garments are printed in a UK facility powered entirely by renewable energy, minimising our carbon footprint and supporting my commitment to combating climate change.
Certified Organic and Ethical Standards
All garments are certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), ensuring they’re free from harmful chemicals and made responsibly. They also meet the Oeko-Tex 100 Standard, confirming they’re safe for your health. The manufacturer, Stanley/Stella, is a member of the Fair Wear Initiative, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for workers' rights in the textile industry.
Zero Waste
My business operates on a print-on-demand model, meaning that I only produce what’s needed when you place an order. This eliminates the waste associated with overproduction, as I never manufacture products that won’t be worn.
Eco-Friendly, Vegan Ink
The inks used for printing are water-based, eco-friendly inks that are free from harmful chemicals and completely non-toxic and vegan. These inks use 95% less water than traditional printing methods, significantly reducing our environmental impact.
